Documenting the milestone moments during your baby’s first year (i.e. crawling, sitting up, first birthday) might be more commonplace these days, but there’s no reason to stop capturing your child as they age out of the baby stage. In fact, I think there’s even more reason to continue on a tradition of photographing your child as the years go by.
As your child grows and their personality begins to develop and morph with every passing year, they slowly become their own individual. We are often busy enjoying the day-to-day experiences with our children that we don’t realize how much they are changing right before our eyes. Before we know it, their babbles have turned into full conversations and their laugh somehow changes while remaining the same. Annual portraits help capture these changes as time goes by.
While you don’t need a particular reason to capture the magic of their childhood and your child’s changes from one year to the next, I’ve found that birthdays are a great milestone reminder for updated portraits. And of course, while family sessions offer a great opportunity for capturing beautiful portraits of your child, a dedicated portrait session for just your child enables the focus and fun to just be on them. This allows us to get a variety of portraits that really show off the many faucets of their individual personality.
While these images were shot in studio (which I highly recommend for minimized distractions), outdoor portraits are certainly a great option as well if you’d like to capture your little explorer in action.
