How much time do we really need to create beautiful family photos?

When it comes to photographing families with little ones, I often have parents ask me something along the lines of, “how much time do we really need to create beautiful family photos?”  While there are a few answers I could give, I will say that we really don’t need as much time as you would think.

Give me 15 minutes

Many times, those in search of a photographer look for someone who will offer them lots of time for their session. While that isn’t necessarily a negative thing, it is important to note that an experienced professional photographer can actually be extremely efficient with even a small amount of time. We really don’t need hours and hours. Take the photos below for example. Would you believe that we only shot for 15 minutes? Yes, you read that right: 15 minutes! I’ll tell you how I make that happen by answering a few of your most commonly asked questions below.

How are you able to be so efficient?

Photography has been a part of my life for more than a decade and I’ve been shooting professionally for the last four years. During that time, I have learned many skills revolving around not only the technical aspects of photography, but how to direct and get the results we both want without wasting precious time. When it comes to family photos, I also always encourage letting kids be in the moment. Sitting still, smiling, and listening to a stranger tell them what to do can be overwhelming (even for adults!). It’s okay to allow them to be distracted by other things. I’ll join them there in the moment. If they are being goofy, let them be goofy. If they are crying, let them cry. If they want to explore, let them explore. Capturing them as they are (emotions and all) really is a beautiful thing. It also allows for us to make the most out of our time together.

How do I determine how much time I will need for my family?

You and I work together to discuss and determine multiple factors (including how much time we’ll need) during your complimentary pre-session consultation. Some of these factors include: your children’s age(s), personalities, the size of your family, and our shooting location. Depending on if it is an environment that your children are/aren’t familiar with, we may be able to jump right in, or we may need to allow for a little bit of time to give them the opportunity to warm up to their surroundings before we begin. Every family is unique in their individual needs, so we work together to gauge what is best for you. Fortunately, my sessions come with no time restraint (see the next question below) which gives us plenty of flexibility.

What are my session options with Rosencrown Photography?

I offer multiple session options. Typically 30-60 minutes gives us enough time to get us everything we need. This allows for flexibility and more than enough time to accomplish our goals, while still leaving room for unexpected meltdowns or potty breaks. On occasion, I will offer mini sessions on limited dates and locations that are short and sweet (typically 10-15 minutes).  As you can see from the images in this post, we really can create beautiful images in a short timeframe.

How do I book a session with Rosencrown Photography?

The easiest way to get started and receive additional information on session options and get a date on the calendar for your family photos is by filling out the CONTACT FORM. Once I receive your inquiry, I’ll get you all the details you need!
