Capturing Milestones: Why You Should Book Family Photos to Celebrate Your Baby’s First Birthday

Your baby’s first birthday is a milestone unlike any other. It’s a year full of firsts from smiles, laughs, bites and steps. As you approach this special chapter in your life, it’s a perfect time to book a family session and celebrate the joy and growth of your family. Here’s why a milestone session is a must and how you can make the most out of it.

  1. PRESERVE YOUR MEMORIES
The first year of your baby’s life is full of one change after another. The excitement of bringing home a newborn to watching them learn to crawl, stand and walk never ceases. So many precious moments are packed into this year. A family session with a focus on your little one highlights these little moments that you never want to forget. Try incorporating a sentimental outfit, blanket, or location (such as your backyard) to reflect special meaning in your photos.
  2. CELEBRATE THE JOURNEY
Your child’s first birthday marks a celebration of your family’s journey. Whether it’s your first child or a new addition, these portraits should reflect how far you have come together and celebrate your special bond.
  3. CREATE KEEPSAKES TO LOOK BACK ON
Your baby won’t remember their first birthday, but you will. These photos will become cherished keepsakes for both you and them as they grow older and tell the story of their early years. A milestone session gives them a little glimpse into how loved and cherished they were from the very beginning. Seeing their portrait hang on the wall as they get older will instill confidence of their place in the family unit.
  4. PLAN AHEAD AND BOOK EARLY
Book your photographer in advance and time the session around your child’s first birthday. Planning ahead ensures you get an ideal date on their calendar. I suggest booking several months in advance for this reason as well as to give ample time for planning all the details.
  5. PREPARE FOR THE DAY
When your session day arrives, make sure everyone is well- rested and fed. Bring along snacks, toys and comfort items to help keep your baby happy during photos. I also suggest having backup outfits ready to go in case of spills, dirt, or other messes. Try to have your baby get a nap in prior to arriving to your family photos to keep spirits up.
  6. CAPTURE THE LITTLE DETAILS
While we’ll be sure to capture solo shots of your baby as well as the whole family, getting detail shots during this time is a special way to immortalize the story of this chapter. Little hands reaching, feet exploring, and close ups of their little smile when they look up at you will help you forever recall what this season felt like.

Booking a family photo session to document a milestone is a great way to preserve your family’s legacy and the journey you’ve been on together. If you have a baby at home, start planning for portraits now so you can preserve the moments you’ll want to cherish for a lifetime.
