As a Portland Family Photographer, I want to help ensure you look your best when you step in front of the camera. One of the biggest pieces to planning your family’s portrait session is deciding what to wear. It’s no question that wardrobe can make or break family photos. As always promised, I’ll guide you every step of the way and give you resources to making planning as easy as possible for you. In additional to the tips I’ve listed for you below, I have a complete Style Guide for you to browse through with suggestions on what to wear for the whole family and wear to shop. Keep reading to learn about some of my favorite tips to help you get started with your planning.
Where do I begin when it comes to choosing wardrobe for my family?
- DRESS FOR COMFORT
The most important thing is that you want to be comfortable in whatever you choose. Your clothing choices should reflect your own personal style so that you can look and feel confident during your session. - CONSIDER YOUR HOME DECOR
Take some time to think about where you want your photos to end up. What walls will they live on? What is the decor and color scheme in the room(s)? Choose wardrobe colors that will fit the vibe/style of the space they will end up in. - CONSIDER YOUR LOCATION
Dress appropriate for the location you will be in. For example, if you plan on being by a river or water source, perhaps being barefoot for your session is a good idea. Consider what colors will be surrounding you in your portraits so that you don’t clash with your surroundings.
What colors are best?
Neutrals are always timeless! But color can be a fun addition. I usually suggest sticking to earthy and pastel tones. Choose 2-3 colors that compliment one another and dress your whole family considering that palette.
Will you help style my family’s wardrobe?
Yes! I’m happy to help you create a mood board for you with links to specific clothing and/or help give you inspiration as you begin your clothing search.
Do you have wardrobe I can borrow?
YES! My goal is always to try and make things as easy as possible for you every step of the way during the planning process. I have a small wardrobe of dresses for mom to choose from as well as a growing collection of toddler clothing. If you would like to borrow a dress to use for your session, let me know and I can send you a list of all my options that are waiting and ready for you to use.
